SHIRLEY JEAN HIRBY ARNESON HOSKINS, born March 18, 1938, passed away after a brief illness on April 8, 2011. Her death has saddened our hearts terribly and she will be greatly missed. She leaves behind loved ones, including her husband of 35 years, Jim Hoskins; her son, Scott Arneson and his wife Kari; her daughter, Gwen Pierce and her husband Shawn; her stepson, Mark Hoskins and his wife, Kristine; her precious grandchildren, Amy, Mallory, Makinly and Ryan; her brother Oscar Hirby and his wife Carolyn; her sister-in-law Joanne Hirby; half-brother Ralph Hirby Jr. and his wife, Freda; nieces and nephews; and many other cherished loved ones and dear friends. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Ralph Hirby Sr., and Adeline Caldwell Hirby and her brother, Daniel (Danny) Hirby. She grew up in Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock Central High in 1956. She worked hard all of her life and retired from the State of Arkansas in 2008. She was very active in the Arkansas Tea Party movement, loved her country, worked hard to help keep our nation strong, never afraid to speak up for what she felt was right, a DAT Leader for the American Red Cross, where she would go at a moment's notice to help victims of fire, tornado or flood. Our family would be honored with any donations to the Red Cross or any charity pledged to helping those in need, in her name. She loved being on the go and doing for others and just having fun with her many friends. She never met a stranger and made you feel like you'd known her forever. To know Shirley was to love her. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and He loved her, choosing to call her home now instead of having to go through any more pain and suffering. She was a long-time member of Heritage Baptist Temple of Little Rock. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful ICU professionals at UAMS that worked so hard to help our dear Shirley and with compassion and respect toward her family. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2011 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, (501)224-8300. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the funeral home, with Reverend Bobby Creel officiating. Burial will be 12, Noon at Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock, Ark. 72120. Online guestbook: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/chenal.
