Michael Lee Smyers, 66, of Conway, died Monday, April 11. He was born October 5, 1944 in Austin, Texas, to the late Lee Carroll Smyers and Mildred Payne Smyers. He is survived by his mother, Mildred, wife, Jeanne and children, Amy and Rob Wallace, Tricia and Rob O'Connor and Paul and Elizabeth Smyers and grandchildren, Riley, Ben, Liam and Maggie, and sister, Carolyn Rogers. Family and friends also knew him as a loving, loyal, and devoted uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1967 and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Texas National Guard. For 31 years, he worked for the American Cancer Society, raising awareness and funds for cancer research. Following his retirement from the American Cancer Society, he and his wife Jeanne bought The Kitchen Store in downtown Conway. An avid runner, sailor, explorer, and traveler, he will be remembered as a Christian, teacher, humanitarian, philanthropist, listener, adviser and mentor. He served on the Board of Directors for the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and Conway Regional Health Foundation. Memorial services will be Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 10 a.m., at Second Baptist Church in Conway with Rev. Dale Chrisman officiating. The family will greet friends after the service.
