Don Porter, 75, of Little Rock, Arkansas, formerly of College Station, Arkansas, converted his earthly body to a heavenly one on Sunday, April 17, 2011. Don was born August 3, 1935 to the late "Doc" Porter and Helen Williams-Day. He is also rejoicing in heaven with his sister, Helen Williams-Evans and his twin brother, John Porter. Don is survived and sorely missed by a devoted and loving wife of 51 years, Fannie Porter. He has three children that were faithful and dedicated to him during his illness: Jonathan Porter, Stephanie Martin {Andre} and Donald Porter. He is also survived by his brother, Samuel Day {Janacia}; his sisters-in-law, "Queen" Guest, Barbara Thornton, Classie Mae Brown, Evelyn Hollins, and Margaret Abercrombie. Don has seven grandchildren: Donna Porter, Andrea Martin, Donterio Porter, Elisssabeth Martin, Donielle Porter, Sarah Martin, Seth Martin. He has four great-grandchildren and a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Don possessed a natural wit and charm that endeared him to countless friends and family. He was a loyal and amazing husband, dad, brother and friend. He had an extraordinary persona that was larger than life itself; yet he remained humble and committed to his family and friends. His remarkable sense of humor and magnetic personality served him well. He could take an old hymnal and sing in such a way that you knew that he felt it deep in his soul. Don would bring a smile to any circumstance; spend five minutes in his presence and you were transformed. Don was now your best friend and you would be laughing and discussing life's most intimate details. We would like to thank our special nieces, nephews, and cousins for all their support and love. Don has a long time friend and brother, Charles Mitchell that has been there for him during his illness to provide encouragement and support. Dale Ganaway, Leroy Ayers, and Lawrence Evans have been there for "Pop"s" over many years. Don spent the past three months at Chenal Heights Nursing and Rehab where he entertained and loved the staff. A very special thanks to many of the employees at Chenal Heights for their consistent and overwhelming commitment to the preservation and love of the elderly. We would also thank many of the employees of Arkansas Heart Hospital. We would be amiss if we did not also acknowledge, Dr. Scott Beau, Dr. Sam Houston, Dr. Delbra Caradine, Dr. Scott Simmons, Becky Parham APN, and Kelly Hall APN, for their commitment to Don during his illness. Family visitation: Friday, April 22, 2011, 6-7 p.m. at Arms of Peace Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 11 a.m., Pilgrim Valley Baptist Church, 1821 Wolfe Street, Reverend William Fields, Pastor, Reverend L. A. Bland, Eulogist. Interment: Rest In Peace, Hensley, Arkansas. Transitional arrangement entrusted to Arms of Peace Funeral Home, 1715 South Scott Street, Little Rock, Arkansas - 501-377-2767, "Cherishing Your Peaceful Transition," Venetta Peaster-Director.
