G.W. Mathews, 89, of Little Rock, passed away on April 19, 2011. He was born in Little Rock to George and Mary (Bellah) Mathews on October 14, 1921. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Lowell and Clarence. G.W. served his country in the Civil Conservation Corp prior to entering the Army and serving during WWII. He retired from the State Forestry Commission after over 31 years of service as a communications technician. He enjoyed gardening and could build anything with his carpentry skills. G.W, a faithful member of the Church of God of Abramhamic Faith, centered his life on God and family. He was the family Patriarch who taught us the value of life and love. He will be forever missed. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 65 years, Lillian; his children Steven of Gould, Tena Clark (Tom) of Roland and Brenda Perry (David) of Roland; his sister Nell Daniels of Canyon Lake, Texas; seven granddaughters; one grandson; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 22, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Griffin Leggett Healey Roth Funeral Home with burial to follow with military honors at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Pastor Tom New will officiate. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. in the chapel prior to the service.
