Marguerite Rodgers

Marguerite Reed Rodgers, 92, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Trinity Village Medical Center. She was born October 8, 1918 in Rowell, Arkansas, daughter of the late Walter and Maybell Stewart Reed. Mrs. Rodgers was reared and received her early education in Rowell and graduated from Woodlawn High School as Valedictorian in 1937. She earned her degree from Arkansas A&M, now University of Arkansas at Monticello. She taught elementary school for 30 years in Grapevine, Woodlawn and Watson Chapel before retiring in 1981. Mrs. Rodgers was a long-time member of South Side Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Priscilla Sunday School Class, taught in the primary department and worked in the library for many years. She was a member of the Jefferson County Elementary Teachers, AEA and NEA. Mrs. Rodgers was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Society, Opportunity Chapter of Business Women and RSVP. She loved cooking, sewing, reading, bridge and traveling extensively with her husband preceding his death. Mrs. Rodgers lived at Trinity Village for several years. She was elected Resident of the Month twice and Resident of the Year once. Mrs. Rodgers was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James F. Rodgers; three brothers, H.C., Eugene, and Marion Reed; and sister, Ernestine Weir. Survivors include her daughter, Jimmie Claire (Leroy) Brockbank of Del Mar, California; son, Rodney E. (Marlene) Rodgers of Pine Bluff; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 2, 2011 at South Side Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Gillham officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. at Robinson's.
