II Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Earl Lee Carter Jr. of Sherwood entered the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, with his wife, Dorothy, at his bedside. The Lord carried Earl through a courageous battle with cancer for over two years. Philippians 4:19. Earl was a member and loved First Baptist Church of Sherwood. Often he was at the church's sink washing dishes and coffee pots for the group 55 and Alive. When you walked in the church's sanctuary on Sundays, Earl's smiling face and firm handshake greeted you. Earl was a retired school teacher from Metropolitan Vo-Tech. He won many national awards from VICA for excellency in vocational education. Earl was known to be an avid "Elvis" fan and enjoyed his gospel music. Earl Lee Carter Jr. was born December 23 in North Little Rock, Ark. to Maurine English and Earl Carter Sr. Earl is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Sherwood, his daughters, Shirley Cherry (Paul) of Glenwood, Connie Hefley (Eugene) of Sherwood, and step-son, Tom Lovell (Dusty) of Amarillo, Texas, sisters, Jean Levitch (Mel) of Tennessee, Patricia Butler (Jim) of Lonoke, Norene Pope of Lonoke, brother, Bobby Chadwick (Jeanie) of Bryant, and grandchildren, Elizabeth Pannell (Stephen), Katherine Cherry, and Hannah Joy Parker. The family expresses their thankfulness to Dr. Wilder, C&S Associates Elder Care, Hospice and members of First Baptist Church of Sherwood.. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Sherwood, 701 Country Club Rd., Sherwood, Ark. 72120 with Reverend Don Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home (501-791-7400) 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd. North Little Rock, Ark. 72116.
