Marian Jeanette Stanford

Marian Jeanette Stanford, 83, of McGehee, Ark. died on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. her services will be held on Monday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in McGehee with Rick Miller, minister of music officiating. Burial will follow at Tillar Cemetery in Tillar. Marian was born Nov. 15, 1927, on the valley Plantation in Winchester, Ark., and was a member of First Baptist Church in McGehee since 1965. Her parents were John S. and Grace Haisty. She married Glen Stanford on Sept. 8, 1946. Throughout her life, Marian expressed her love of music through membership in the church choir. Besides singing, she enjoyed playing the piano, reading poetry, watching sports and spending time with her family. Marian was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, (Avanelle Poff); her husband, (Glen); and her grandson (David Hassell.) She is survived by daughter, Glenda Smith (mike) of McGehee; son, David (Debbie) of Fruitvale, Texas; daughter, Diane Hassell of Tulsa, Okla.; son, Jon (Marla) of Tulsa, Okla.; and Angie Johnson (Bryan) of Savannah, Ga. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 on Sunday at Griffin Funeral Home in McGehee.
