Bessie McCallister Woolf, 92, of Jonesboro died Monday, Dec.12, at Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Barclay and Edna Cooper McCallister, and her husband of 61 years, Winton P. (Dick) Woolf. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Ruby and Ola McCallister, sister, Edna Mae McCallister Ball, and brothers, Robert, Elvan and Reuben McCallister. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Francis Martin of Nashville, Tenn., and Kay and J.H. Williams of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Susan Martin Severs, Jason Williams, and Jared Williams; great-granddaughters, Emma and Megan Severs; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Woolf lived most of her life in Pulaski Co. and in Jonesboro since 1996. She was a graduate of Mabelvale High School (1941) and Draughon School of Business. She worked at the Arkansas Ordinance Plant when Mr. Woolf enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She also worked for several years as bookkeeper for a department store chain. She was a life-long gardener, providing for her family from the bounty of her garden. During her retirement years she helped her grandchildren to learn about gardening; she also enjoyed traveling and researching her genealogy. Mrs. Woolf was a long-time member of Martindale Baptist Church, Little Rock; she was more recently a member of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Little Rock led by Rev. Mike Martin of Central Baptist Church, Jonesboro, services under the direction of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. 501-661-9111.
