Louis Edward Hurley Jr, 76, passed away Dec. 29th after a lengthy illness. He was truly a gentleman. He was born in Little Rock, Ark. on Dec. 31, 1933 to Marquerite and Louis Edward Hurley. He attended El Dorado High School and graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in 1951. Ed continued at Wentworth, then transferred to the University of Arkansas where he graduated in 1955. He was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a Razorback cheerleader. Ed was president and chairman of the Board of Exchange Bank & Trust Co. He served on the Governing Council of the American Bankers Association. He currently owned Mountain Valley Water Distributors in El Dorado. He served as Chairman of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce and he was U.S. Jaycees Young Man of the Year in 1966 and was one of Arkansas' Outstanding Young Men in 1967. He served on the DeSoto Area Council of Boy Scouts where he was a proud Eagle Scout and was later presented the Distinguished Silver Beaver Award. He received the Award of Accomplishment from Arkansas Community Development Program. He served as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army while serving in the Korean War. He served as a Deacon, an Elder and Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church. Ed was an avid hunter and sportsman with a special affinity for duck hunting and fishing. In 1976, he earned a Perfect Score Award in the Stone-Penick Trap Shoot Competition. Ed's greatest attribute was his unconditional love as husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Richards Hurley; daughters Susan Harper and husband Bill of El Dorado, Annette Hurley and partner Candi Grace of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Caroline, William, Annaleigh and Suzannah Harper; two brothers, Robert (Susie) and Doug (GiGi) Hurley both of Boerne, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado. A reception will be held afterwards in the Fellowship Hall. The family will be at home at 2508 Forestlawn Drive to receive guests from 2-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
