Douglas Dean "Pappa Doug" Wickherst, 61 of Conway, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010. Douglas was born in Huron, S.D., on May 22, 1949, he was a son to Dolores (Schinderling) Wickherst and the late Harry F. Wickherst. He was a loving son, father, grandfather and brother and attended the First Assembly of God Church in North Little Rock. Douglas was an Army veteran, having served during the Viet Nam War and retired from Union Pacific Railroad after twenty-five years of service. A sister Diana White also preceded him in death. Survivors include his children: Michael Wickherst of Conway, Gregory Wickherst of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michelle Schreck of Conway; eight grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, his ex-wife and mother of his children Ann Stortz: his sister, Peggy Blank; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pappa Doug was the greatest fan of Nebraska football, he loved to spoil all of his grandchildren, and he is mostly remembered for putting the needs of others before his own. We will miss him dearly. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at First Assembly of God Church in North Little Rock with Pastor John Maynard officiating. The interment service, with military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. at Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery in North Little Rock with Reuben Talsma, Rick Stubbs, Stanley (Scooter) Dalton, Andrew Gerard, Greg Schaffer, Mickey Fairchild, Bernardo Garcia and Toby Blank serving as pallbearers.
