Deacon Earl Vernon Stallcup, 89, of Little Rock Arkansas slept away peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 6, 2011. A World War II veteran and recipient of a government grant in Aviation Flight Instructions mentored by Mr. Milton Crenshaw and funded by the Philander Smith College at Central Flying School through Little Rock Municipal Airport where he received his civilian pilot license. Previously employed by the Pine Bluff Arsenal and later a 44 year retiree of the Veterans Administration and served as First Black President of the American Federation Government Employees Union Local 2054. A member of the Mt. Vernon/Gaines Street Baptist Church and the oldest living member of the church family. He was active in the Sunday School, Deacons Ministry, Nurses Guild, Past Chairman of Trustee Board, Past President of the Willing Workers Ministry. Administrative Wing of the Church dedicated in his honor by Pastor J.B. Minix in November 2006. He's survived by his devoted wife of four years, Dorothy Willis Stallcup of Little Rock, Arkansas; seven children, Eloise Reese Burns of Olivehurst, Calif., Samuel (Hazel) Stallcup of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Doris Rush of Wrightsville, Ark., Delores Floyd of Little Rock, Ark., Vicki (Shannon) Williams of Little Rock, Ark., Earl Stallcup Jr., of Little Rock, Ark., Irving C. Gaines Jr., of Honolulu, Hawaii, Merwin J. Gaines of Little Rock, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three god–daughters, Patricia Vick, Mary "Tina" Goldsberry and Dorothy Williams all of Little Rock, Ark., and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. Home going services will be Friday, January 14, 2011, 11 a.m., at Gaines Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1601 S. Gaines Street, Little Rock, Arkansas. Interment will follow with honors at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 Maryland Ave., North Little Rock, Ark.
