Virgil L. "Troy" Horrell

Virgil L. "Troy" Horrell, 82, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011 at his home. He was born on Sunday, February 26, 1928 in Pine Bluff, Ark. to Percy B. and Ruby (Maples) Horrell. Mr. Horrell was a Korean War veteran having served in the United States Navy. He married Lavonne Taylor June 24, 1956 in Grapevine, Ark. They moved to Alamogordo in 1957. He retired from the Civil Service at the Holloman AFB where he was an experimental welder at the High Speed Test Track. He was a member of AARP and NARFE. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Mountain Valley Baptist Association. He is survived by his wife, LaVonne "Vonn" Taylor-Horrell of the family home; a son; Michael Latroy Horrell and Wife Helen of Beeville, Texas; a daughter, Michele LaVonne Horrell of Alamogordo, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Percy E. Horrell. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alamogordo with Pastor Jeff May officiating. Interment followed at Monte Vista Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Reinhardt, Chet Sehorn, Jimmy Sisco, Terry Brancheau, Jim Baker and Tom Whisenhunt.
