Captain Harry Lee Whitmore, USArmy Retired, 68, of Little Rock died Wednesday, January 19, 2011. He was born July 5, 1942 at Nashville, Arkansas, the son of Harry T. and Dorothy Ponder Whitmore. He was a graduate of El Dorado High School and Henderson State College. A decorated Vietnam Veteran, he bravely and proudly served his country. He enjoyed football and fishing and was a student of the Bible, spending hours each day reading and studying the scriptures. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Lee Whitmore. Survivors include his wife, Kappi Haley Whitmore; a daughter, Susan Lee Whitmore Bailey and her husband Howard Bailey of Little Rock; a brother, Randy Whitmore and wife Linda of Texarkana; his mother-in-law, Marion Haley Benefield of Haynesville, Louisiana; an aunt, Nina Tullis of Mineral Springs; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins as well as special buddies, Nick and Nora and Charlie Bird. The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Cliff Parnell and the Palliative Care Unit at McClellan Veterans Hospital. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2011, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery, El Dorado, Arkansas.
