Ernest L. Sangster

On Jan. 29, 2011, Ernest L. Sangster, age 84, of Warren, Ark., passed away at his home. He was born in Warren, Ark., on Feb. 4, 1926 to Charles Ernest and Carmen Bidaut Sangster. He was the grandson of Charles Henry and Eliza Godwin Sangster and August and Augustine Belime Bidaut. He was educated in the Warren Public Schools, graduating in 1944. He entered military service in August 1944 serving with the 102nd Infantry Division in Europe. After his honorable discharge, he attended Ouachita Baptist College where he played football for two years. Later he attended A & M College in Monticello before transferring to Oregon State at Corvallis, Ore., for his degree in forest engineering. Upon returning to Arkansas in 1951, he worked as a forester for Southern Lumber Company and Potlatch Corporation. In 1972 he became Woodlands Manager for Potlatch's Arkansas Division, serving in that position until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Warren. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a brother Gerard Sangster. He is survived by his wife, Mary Betty Jones Sangster, of Rison, Ark., whom he married on Sept. 4, 1955; two daughters, Emily Lasiter of Warren and Margot Vogel of Little Rock; son-in-law, Tripp Vogel; four grandchildren, Sam and Daniel Vogel, Bobby Hubbard and Johanna Lasiter; niece, Patti Bryant, nephew, Michael Sangster; sister-in-law, Helen Sangster, grand-nieces and nephews, and special family friend Jean Frisby. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 31, from 6-8 p.m. at Frazer's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 at Frazer's Chapel officiated by Rev. Gary Maskell followed by burial at Oakland Cemetery.
