Donald "Don" Gammel

Donald "Don" Gammel, age 71, of Crossett, Ark. passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at his home. He was born January 11, 1940 to his parents, Odis K. and Eva Perry Gammel. He was president of Gammel's Furniture Store which he started in 1985; he was past superintendent for the U.S. Forestry Service and was a lifetime member of the Numismatic Association. Mr. Gammel was a member of Beech Street Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church. He enjoyed coin collecting and dealing in antiques, and had enjoyed hunting and fishing at one time. He was a very loving husband, dad and papaw. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Kay Akin Gammel of Crossett; his son, Wade Gammel (Sherry) of Crossett, Ark.; two daughters, Sheila Lott (Floyd) of Crossett, Ark., Melissa Kay Porter (Michael) of Brookhaven, Miss.; one step-daughter, Kristi Thurman (Doug) of Crossett, Ark.; three brothers, Louie Gammel (Sandra) of Crossett, David Gammel (Julie) of Fordyce, Ark. and Byron Gammel of Crossett; two sisters, Laura Sue Sinclair (Wayne) of El Dorado, Ark. and Charlcie Hill (Norman) of Monticello, Ark.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; his first wife, Mary Kathryn Holt Gammel Evans of Crossett, Ark. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Staley officiating. Interment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark. (www.jonesservice.com).
