E.J. "Al" Alexander, age 89, of Arkadelphia passed from this life on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs. He was born May 14, 1922 in Colorado City, Texas, the son of the late Turner Jefferson and Ethel Irene Young Alexander. Al was the owner and operator of Independent Well Point Corporation and Farm Town Implement of Arkadelphia for many years. He was an avid golfer, and a member of the Arkansas State Golf Association Hall of Fame. Al was a United States Marine Corp veteran of World War II where he served in the South Pacific at Bougainville. As a marine, he contracted malaria and was sent to New Zealand and received an honorable discharge. Al was a member of First United Methodist Church of Arkadelphia. Survivors are his wife Jean Smith Alexander, one daughter Kathy Diane (Larry) Young of Des Moines, Iowa, two sons Kevin Bruce (Susie) Alexander of Brownsboro, Texas and Todd (Beth Ann) Alexander of Crockett County, Texas, one sister Nina McDougal of Eastland, Texas, four grandchildren Hillary Jean (Dustin) Shelton, Alex Richardson Young, Clayton Hunter Alexander and Brittany Paige Alexander. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Carroll Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends at their home at 1516 Evans from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Williams, Jan Williams, Floyd Brantley, Tom Calhoun, Percy Malone and Dr. Ron Spann. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.
