David A. Shoemaker Sr., 74 of Conway, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011. David was born to Charles Adrian and Thelma Driskill Shoemaker on February 21, 1937 in Batesville, Arkansas. Raised in Batesville, Arkansas, David was a member of the Central Ave. Methodist Church. While attending Batesville High School David played basketball and football. In his senior year, David was elected DeMolay Northeast Arkansas Grand Master Counselor for 1954 through 1955. David, chosen as the first King of the White River Carnival in Batesville in 1955, was entertained by a very young Elvis Presley. David and his family enjoyed being part of the Coleman Dairy family in Little Rock, Arkansas for many years. Representatives from Exxon approached David to lease the 108 Exxon in Morrilton, Arkansas. Established in the Exxon business for five years, Coulson Oil Company offered David a Shell dealership with an option to purchase. David and family retired as owners of the Triple S Shell Superstop relocating to Conway, Arkansas to be near David, Jr.'s family and Carolyn's sister, Mary Jane Davis and son Clayton. David enjoyed much of his retirement golfing and fishing with friends and family. David is preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Adrian Shoemaker, granddaughter Carolyn Julia Shoemaker and brother-in-law Paul Bone. David is survived by his wife, Carolyn Long Shoemaker, his son, David Adrian Shoemaker, Jr. (wife Terri Renee) of Conway, his daughter, Terron Kaye Shoemaker Perk (husband Kevin) of Memphis, Tennessee, a sister, Faye Shoemaker Bone of Clinton, sister-in-law, Mary Jane Long Davis of Conway, a grandson, David Landon Shoemaker of Conway, granddaughter, Kaylee Renee Shoemaker of Conway, two nephews, Clayton Davis of Conway, Steven Bone (wife Pam, daughter Abigail) of Clinton, one niece, Adrianne Bone Wilbers (husband Andy, sons Charles and Mathew) of Clinton and the "Wonderful Chicago Cousins." Visitation will be held in the Bob Neal Funeral Home Chapel in Morrilton, June 16, 2011 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the northern addition of Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10 a.m. The Cemetery is located on Myers and Sidney streets by the river.
