Lanelle Nolen

Lanelle Nolen died at her home on June 13, 2011, at age 90, surrounded by her loving family and has gone to her heavenly reward. She was born in Emery, Arkansas on February 9, 1921 to Callie and Ellet Ring. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Richard Nolen, and by her brothers, K.P., Oal, Clifton, and Virgil, and her sisters Cornell, Coleen, and Gladys. She was a loving sister, mother, and grandmother who is survived by three sons, Robert Nolen of Roland, Arkansas, John Nolen (Patty) of Westchester, Pennsylvania, Greg Nolen (Vivian) of Little Rock, Arkansas; and one daughter, Lucy Nolen of Roland, Arkansas. "Grandma Nelle" as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren is survived by her grandsons, Paul of Normal, Illinois, Mark of Wichita, Kansas, Jeffrey (Rebecca) of Maumelle, Arkansas, Andrew of Rogers, Arkansas, Austin and granddaughter, Rosalie of Westchester, Pennsylvania. Lanelle was an R.N. and received her nurse's training from St. Louis University. Later, while working as a nurse at University Hospital in Little Rock, she met and married the love of her life, Dr. Richard Nolen on Halloween Day, 1947. Lanelle was a devout Catholic and attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock. Lanelle loved to travel, watch sports, read, and play bridge with friends. She also loved art and painting and gave away many of her painting to family members. When grandchildren came into her life, she spent many hours taking them on trips to the zoo, eating at McDonalds, shopping for clothes, and fixing them special treats when they spent the night at her house. She was well known by her grandchildren as the "Official Lifeguard" at her backyard swimming pool. In her final years she loved to share stories about growing up by "BIG CREEK" in Emery, Arkansas with 12 brothers and sisters, on the family farm. The family will receive friends at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501) 224-8300 at 13801 Chenal Parkway, on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Kennerly Cemetery. We will receive family and friends at her home after the burial.
