Lillian Florene Tate

Lillian Florene Simmons Tate, 92, of Springhill, Louisiana formerly of Hope, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in Springhill, Louisiana. She was born June 17, 1918 to Alden and Minnie Lou Card Simmons in Hope, Arkansas. Lillian became a member of the Church of Christ early in life and her family was a founding member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Hope, Arkansas and later the Hope Church of Christ. She was retired from Howard Brothers Department Store. She loved to travel, especially with her younger sister, Sarah Lou. She loved to work in her flower beds and help her husband in his wonderful garden. They even had the honor of Yard of the Month while living in Hope, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James O. Tate; brothers, Milton, Frank, Paul, A.F. and Guy; sister, Pauline Durham and great-great-grandson, Payson Colvin. She is survived by her son, Don Tate and his wife Lynda of Vidalia, La.; granddaughters, Donna Sindle and her husband Dale of Springhill, La. and Leslee Rowland and her husband Edward of Guntown, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Megan and Michael Colvin, Jordan Sindle and Hannah Rowland; great great-grandchildren, Addison and Kadi Colvin; brothers, George H. Simmons of Pearl City, Hawaii, John and Rosie Simmons of Fairfield, Texas, sister, Sarah Lou May and husband Lawrence Winfred of San Antonio, Texas and numerous and very special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, June 16, 2011 between the hours of 6-8 p.m. at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, June 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jessi Dickison officiating, interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.
