Lucy Purvis Hughes

Lucy Purvis Hughes, 77, passed away on June 11, 2011 at her home in Ionia, Michigan. Lucy was born in Little Rock, the daughter of Bernice Hoff Purvis and Marshall Purvis. She was a graduate of Little Rock High School, Class of 1951, and Michigan State University. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her brother, Marshall B. Purvis. She was a Travel Agent, Secretary and a well know Swimming Instructor. Survived by Husband Ray A. Hughes, Children Eric Hughes (Christy) of East Grand Rapids, Mich., and Stacia Hughes of Greenville, Mich., six grandchildren, and three cousins, Patty Jo Hoff, Ann Hoff Crum, and Bryan McMahon. Lucy and Ray were married on September 22, 1959 in Chicago and moved to Ionia in 1969. She was active in Red Hats, the Ionia Community Theater and the Ionia Library where she served on the Board of Directors. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on June 18th, 2011. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Michigan State University or the First Presbyterian Church.
