Marie Spitzberg

Marie Seeman Spitzberg died at the University of Arkansas Medical Center Hospital in Little Rock on Thursday afternoon, June 16. Ms. Spitzberg was the widow of Irving Joseph Spitzberg, Sr., pediatrician and professor of medicine in Little Rock who died May 6, 1989. Ms. Spitzberg was born October 14, 1918 in Kings' Daughters Hospital, Greenville, Miss., daughter, of Herman Seeman and Emma Lee Storm Seeman. Her brother Edward Seeman predeceased her. Ms. Spitsberg graduated from Louisiana State University, the first woman Accounting major. She moved to Little Rock to work for the Farm Security Administration. She married Dr. Spitzberg April 3, 1941, "trading in her CPA for her MRS." Ms. Spitzberg provided decades of exemplary voluntary service through her Sunday school teaching at Temple B'nai Israel, work with the St. Vincent and Baptist Hospital Auxiliaries, leadership in Boy Scouts, computer tutoring with seniors through Seniornet, and service at the Little Rock Visitor's Bureau. Ms. Spitzberg's family created an annual award, "The Marie", to recognize outstanding interfaith leadership in Arkansas Ms. Spitzberg is survived by her two sons, Irving Joseph Spitzberg Jr. and his wife Virginia Thorndike, of Monkton, Md. and Paul Seeman Spitzberg and his wife Barbara Spitzberg of Tenafly, N.J.; her grandchildren. Edward Storm Spitzberg, ( his wife Neesham and daughter Lulu), David Adam Spitzberg (his wife Mariana, and son Mateo), Bradley Scott Spitzberg, Amy Danielle Spitzberg, and Andrew Joseph Spitzberg. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday, June 19, at Temple B'Nai Israel, followed by interment at Oaklawn Cemetery. There will be a subsequent reception at Temple B'Nai Israel after the graveside service‎.
