Cora Matheny Economos

Dr. Cora Matheny Economos passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Regional Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. A previous resident of Jackson, Tenn., she was born in Camden, Arkansas, the daughter of Walter Stanton Matheny and Cora Smith Matheny. Dr. Economos retired from the Pine Bluff, Arkansas Public Library System where she served as the Director of Libraries for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Michael Economos. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Harry Ecoff of Jackson, Tennessee and a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Julie Dorsett of Ft. Worth, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Dr. Economos was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy. A lifelong Episcopalian. A memorial service will be held for Dr. James Michael Economos and Dr. Cora Matheny Economos at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 29th at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Jackson, Tennessee.
