Rev. Klois L. Hargis, 89, of Hamburg, died Monday, June 27, 2011 at his residence in Hamburg. Rev. Hargis was a native of Bradley County and a resident Hamburg on two occasions for over 33 years. He graduated from Ingalls High School in 1938 where he was the Valedictorian of his class. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having been an instructor in Chemical Warfare during World War II in Seabring, Florida. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1954 and Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth with a Bachelor of Divinity in 1960. He was a Southern Baptist pastor for over 60 years, having pastured at Union Hill Baptist Church in Ingalls, Marsden Baptist Church in Bradley County, First Baptist Church in Idabel, Oklahoma, First Baptist Church in Hamburg from 1966-1975, he taught at the Elliston Baptist Academy in Memphis for 5 years, pastured at North Maple Baptist Church in Stuttgart, First Baptist Church in Tiller, First Baptist Church in Atkins, and First Baptist Church in Marshall, coming back to Hamburg as Senior Adult Pastor in 1986 until his death. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher Hargis in 1944; his parents, Lum & Maude Kitchel Hargis, three brothers, Carl Hurley & Cleo Hargis and a sister, Ruthie Mae Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margie Hickman Hargis; a son, Jimmy Hargis and wife, Sharon, all of Hamburg; two grandchildren, Matthew Hargis of Hamburg and Elizabeth Hargis Moseley and husband, Joey, of Lonoke; two great-grandchildren, Paxton Hargis and Bennett Moseley and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 352, Hamburg, Ark. 71646. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
