OLEN RAYMOND CHURCHILL died Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Little Rock. He was born July 12, 1917, near Hector, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Josephine Cheek Churchill, a son, David Robert Churchill, son-in-law, Neil Marshall Woomer, his parents Monroe King and Edie Candace Story Churchill, brothers, Lattie, Clyde, Odis, and Clemo, sisters, Bessie Caudle, Marjorie Crouch, and Mildred Blake. He is survived by his brother, Everett Buel "Bill" Churchill and his wife Juanita Churchill of Waldron, Arkansas, daughter, Betty Jo Churchill Woomer of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, her children, Christopher Fulton Woomer of Barrington, Rhode Island, his wife, Robin and their children Kayleigh Jane and Abigail Christine; Matthew Emerson Woomer of Suwanee, Georgia, his wife Rebecca Odom Woomer and their children Laura Jane and John Henry Olen; and Andrew Neil Woomer of Chattanooga, Tennessee; son, Larry Raymond Churchill of Nashville, Tennessee and his wife Sandra Wade Churchill, their children Shelley Cheek Churchill of Washington, D.C., her husband Peter Gross, and their children Clara June Qian and Wade Guangjin, and Blair Naylor Churchill and husband Juan-Carlos Monguilod, and their children Miguel Churchill and Sofia Churchill; and son John Hugh Churchill of Washington, D.C. and his wife Jean Hill Churchill and their children William Houston Churchill of Nashville, Tennessee, and his daughter Rosalind Hanlin, Mary Katherine Salisbury Churchill Curcio of Dickson, Tennessee, her husband Michael Grant Curcio and their son Churchill Stewart, and Hugh Olen Hill Churchill of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and his wife Gwen Kordsmeier Churchill. He grew up at Hector, and graduated from Arkansas Tech, Arkansas State Teachers College, and the University of Arkansas. After wartime work in San Diego, California, and service in the U.S. Army, he pursued a career in public education at Hector, where he was Superintendent of Schools, and at Little Rock, where his service in the State Department of Education culminated as Coordinator of Secondary Instruction, supervising the high schools of Arkansas. After retirement he served as Executive Director of the Arkansas Association of Secondary School Administrators. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2011 at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Hector, Arkansas, by Humphrey Funeral Home of Russellville. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church, where he and his family were active members and where he served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher.
