Herschell Lawrence Allen

Herschell Lawrence Smith Allen, 92, widow of Earl Allen died peacefully at Crestpark of Marianna, on March 17, 2011, after a long illness. She was born on Aug. 19, 1918, in Oak Forest, Ark., the seventh child of John Robert and Nettie Pearl Womble Smith. She was a life long resident of Marianna. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years; four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include her two daughters, Timothy Smith Allen Hughey and husband Jack of Marianna, and Mamie Lois Allen Hamblin and husband Gary of Ellijay, Ga.; a sister, Marion (Sugar) Jones of Collierville, Tenn.; and a brother Wayne (Sonny) Smith of Higden, Ark. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Everett Earnest (Rhett) Baugh IV of Huntington Woods, Mich., and Ashley Allen Hughey Bennett and husband Matthew of Madison, Miss., and three great-grandchildren, Charles Jackson, Davis Allen and Molly Catherine Bennett. A graveside service will be held at Marianna Memorial Park on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. Special love and gratitude go to her companions and caregivers Elsie Hill and Fretha Jones.
