Clyde DeVoye Spann, 91, of Benton, passed from his earthly body on Thursday, November 3, 2011. He was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church in Benton. He was born in Saline County on July 6, 1920 to Melvin and Euldene Spann. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 62 years, Lorece James Spann, and a brother, Clarence Jr. He leaves a son, Dr. Ron Spann (Debbie) of Hot Springs; two granddaughters, Paige (Brian) Beck of Johns Creek, Ga. and Ashli (Shawn) Francis of Hugo, Okla.; one brother, Hubert Spann of Benton; one sister, Anneice (Tony) Hogue of Benton; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Chandler, Cole, and Jake, and a host of friends including his best friend, Grace Marie Hinson. Clyde was a shift foreman at Alcoa for 30 plus years and a WWII Navy veteran who served proudly on four ships. He was an avid and champion golfer who walked the courses (mainly Longhills) until his legs gave out near the age of 80. He quit golf when he said he couldn't shoot in the 70's anymore. Funeral service is 10 a.m., November 5, 2011 in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047) officiated by Dr. Rick Grant. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Family visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Tommy Wright, Billy Teague, Harvey Brewer, Charles Hinson, Dwain Hairston, and Gerald Francis. Honorary pallbearers include Paul Pennington, Joe Hardin, Olen Cox, Gary Uselton, and a plethora of golfing buddies. Special thanks to all of his doctors, caregivers, and Hospice.
