Sara M. Gaston

Sara M. Gaston, 96, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at INOVA Loudoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Leesburg, Va. She was born March 3, 1915, in Waco, Texas, the daughter of the late Anthony and Loretta Trabona Butcalis. Her family moved to Pine Bluff in 1920 and she attended Pine Bluff High School. She was a well known cosmetologist and electrologist in Pine Bluff for 65 years. She owned and operated several beauty salons including the Ma Ru Beauty Salon and the Sara-Jane Beauty Salon. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a past member of the choir and the Catholic Daughters of America. Survivors include a son, Lt. Col. James S. Gaston USAF/ret. and wife Bobbie of Leesburg, Va.; two grandsons, James S. Gaston Jr. and wife Anne of Round Hill, Va., and Mark D. Gaston and wife Christy of Leesburg, Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Sarah, Michael, and John Paul Gaston. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Joe Butcalis, Paul Butcalis, Tony Butcalis, Vick Butcalis, Sam Butcalis, and Charles Butcalis, and three sisters, Josephine Barbarotto, Mary Barbarotto, and Loretta Butcalis. A vigil will be held Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at 7 p.m., in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with a visitation following the vigil. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Reverend L. Warren Harvey officiating.
