Herbert E. Tucker

Herbert E. Tucker, 74, Pine Bluff, died October 9, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Mr. Tucker was born April 21, 1937, in Rison, Arkansas to the late Elmer Matthew and Forrest Gray Tucker. He was reared and recieved his education in Rison, where he graduated from Rison High School in 1955. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He later received his Master's Degree in Chemistry and Physics from the University of Mississippi at Oxford. He lived in Stamps from 1959 to 1963, then lived in Hampton from 1963 to 1966, and moved to Pine Bluff in 1966. He married Gladys Parker on September 1, 1959, in Pine Bluff. Mr. Tucker worked for Gaylord Paper Mill for 26 years, retiring in 1994 as a Technical Supervisor. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church ( formerly Edgewood Baptist Church). Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife, Gladys Tucker; a son, Michael Tucker of Adona; a daughter, Connie (Danny) Box of Pine Bluff; a brother, Robert Tucker, of Sheridan; four grandchildren, Melissa (Brandon) Prater of Afghanistan, Nick Schurman of Iowa, Matthew Tucker of Mena, and Nathan Box of Pine Bluff. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Phillip Tucker and a sister, Helen Knickerbocker. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Robinson's. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 12, 2011, 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Jonathan Mertens officiating. Interment will follow at Cypress Memorial Gardens.
