Monroe Smith Jr.

MONROE SMITH JR., 81, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011. Monroe is survived by his wife, Edna Smith, and his children, Rick Smith, Joey Smith, Sherry Starke, Randy Smith, Scotty Smith, Fred Avila, Dennis Avila, Melinda Phillips, and Denise Taylor; brother, Buddy Smith; sisters, Martha Sharp and Gaye Miller; 24 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Monroe and Gladys Smith; his wife, Maxine Smith; daughter, Julie Smith; sisters, Betty Ehlers, Barbara Burch, and Evelyn Harris; and brother, Kenneth Smith. Monroe was an extraordinary man who loved the Lord, the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He was a deacon at Crystal Hill Baptist Church for many years. Monroe worked at Grobmyer Lumber Company all his life until his retirement. He then started his own business, Vendo-Matic Washer Co. Inc., which he ran until he retired a second time. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends. Viewing will be held Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth in Little Rock from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at Crystal Hill Baptist Church at 1 p.m., under the direction of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. 501-661-9111.
