Carl Smith

Carl Smith, son of the late Oliver Smith and Mary Frances Wilson Smith was born on September 11, 1931 in Palmer, Arkansas and departed this life on September 26, 2011 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of 80 years. Mr. Smith was a retired Farmer and a resident of Dexter. On June 15, 1952 he was united in marriage to Gracie W. Welch in Clarendon, Arkansas. Mrs. Smith survives of the home in Dexter. Survivors include two sons, Earnest Gene Smith of Dexter and Carl Earnest Smith Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; by one daughter, Wanda Faye Barker of Dexter; two brothers, J.R. Smith and Hubert Smith both of Marvell, Arkansas; by two sisters, Louise Thomas of Marvell, Arkansas and Shirley Howell of Hazen, Arkansas; also by 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lynn Smith; three brothers, Robert Smith, Louis Smith and Clarence Smith; also by two sisters, Coralee Taylor and Gladys Rodgers. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 12:30 until 2 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011. Funeral services will then be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m., September 29, 2011 with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating. Interment will follow at the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
