Richard Veodis Allmon Sr.

Richard Veodis Allmon Sr. departed this life on April 15, 2012, escorted by a host of Angels. He was born to Veodis J. and Erma Allmon on August 21, 1954 at University Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. The early part of Bishop Allmon's life was spent in Little Rock where he attended Pfeifer and Carver Elementary Schools, then West Side Junior High. He graduated from Central High School in 1972, where he ranked in the top 10 of his class and was the recipient of many honors. Among his many scholastic awards was a full scholarship from Senator Wilbur D. Mills to attend The United States Air Force Academy. Bishop Allmon loved education and continued his studies, receiving a Certificate of Ordination from the United Pentecostal Church International in 1979. In June of 1990, he earned an Associate of Theology Degree from Christian Life College, continuing on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies. He culminated his education by earning a Master of Divinity with a specialization in Biblical Languages from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Bishop Allmon received the Holy Ghost and was Baptized in Jesus Name on August 18, 1974 and served under the leadership of Elder G.A. Coleman at New Testament United Pentecostal Church. A born leader, he is responsible for planting churches in Bogalusa and Gray, Louisiana and in 1983, he was elected Pastor of Full Gospel United Pentecostal Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and appointed Presbyter-At-Large on the United Pentecostal Church International-Louisiana District Board. He served in both capacities, passionately and faithfully, until his death. Richard Allmon, Sr. is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Isaac Allmon Sr. and Virginia Wright; maternal grandfather Willie Brown; his beloved maternal grandmother Jessie "Ma Jessie" Momphrey Mitchell; one brother, Greg 'Ross' Stewart; mother and father-in-law, Mable Straw Houston and Major Straw Sr.; and brother-in-law Major Straw, Jr. Remembering the life of Bishop Allmon is his childhood sweetheart and lovely wife of 39 years, Lois Straw Allmon; seven sons, Richard Jr. (Demi) of Little Rock, Ark., Raymond (Rhonda), Reginald, Robert (Shawanda), Reuben, Ryan (Brittany) all of Baton Rouge, La.; and Ramahd of Dallas, Texas; five daughters, Renarda Parker of Natchez, Miss., Ravonne (Michael) Allmon-Smith of Grand Prairie, Texas, Rachel, Rebecca Allmon-Boatner and Lois all of Baton Rouge, La.; two brothers, Laurence (Carolyn) of Wrightsville, Ark., Gregory Sr. (Belva) of Garland, Texas; five sisters, Cynthia (James) Woods, Charlotte, and Terry Allmon all of Little Rock, Ark.; Carol (Eddie) Watson of Conway, Ark.; and Tracy (Anthony) Jemerson of Mabelvale, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Jones, and Mabeline (Louie) Lewis; one brother-in-law, Larry (Linda) Straw all of Little Rock, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Romeo Parker, Kristopher and Kaleb Allmon, Logan Smith, David Allmon-Haynes, Khobe Allmon, Liyah and Leric Boatner, Samara and Ryan Allmon Jr.; four aunts, Viola (Richard) Gentry of St. Louis, Mo.; Katherine Wright-Knight of Little Rock, Ark.; Paulette Chatman of Lebanon, Ill.; and Shelia Brown of Belleville, Ill.; an uncle, Jesse (Beverly) Wright of Blue Springs, Mo.; one Godson, Anthony (Angela) Rogers Sr. of Centreville, Miss.; one Goddaughter, Lauren Tillery of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Public visitation at Living Faith Cathedral in Baton Rouge at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012.
