Ida Pearl Cooper Newman, 88, of Wynne, passed away Wednesday morning, August 1, 2012, in Memphis. Ida was affectionately known as "GG" and "Queen Mother" by the many members of her family and friends who loved her. She was born in Weiner, Arkansas, November 8, 1923, to Charlie and Mary Cooper. She had eight siblings, with only Mary Heiney of Woodstock, Ga., and Jimmy Cooper of Weiner, Arkansas, surviving. Ida married C. E. "Tye" Newman on February 23, 1941. They lived I Weiner until moving to Fair Oaks where they farmed and raised their three children, who survive: daughters, Lottie Courtney and Clara Moery (and husband Bryan) and C. E., Jr. (and wife Lynne). She is also survived by five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was very proud of her five generation family. Many nieces and nephews also survive. For many years, she operated Ida's Beauty Shop out of her home in Fair Oaks. She was a faithful member of the Fair Oaks Baptist Church and supported the Fair Oaks Elementary School where her children attended. She and Tye moved to Wynne in 1979 where they became active members of Wynne Baptist Church. Having her large family and many friends in her home was one of her great joys. Sunday dinner at GG's house was an event. Her home wasn't large, but there was always plenty of good and room for anyone to come. In her later years, she had many physical ailments, but she was always "ready to go" when something was going on. She loved the song "I Can Only Imagine" which speaks of God's glory and dancing in His presence. That is what she is doing now with her beloved Tye. Visitation was Thursday, August 2, 2012 and funeral services were Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Wynne Baptist Church with burial in Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne. Memorials may be made to Wynne Baptist Church, 1200 Bridges Street, Wynne, Arkansas, 72396.
