Edward Turner, age 84, of Prescott, Ark. died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012 in a local retirement facility. Mr. Turner was born Aug. 25, 1927 in Reader, Ark. He was the owner/operator of Ouachita Nevada Co. Treating Company and a bi-vocational Southern Baptist minister. He served as pastor at Fairview Baptist Church Antoine, where he baptized his wife Betty in the Antoine River. He also served at Okolona Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Arkadelphia, DeGray Baptist Church, Arkadelphia, Marlbrook Baptist Church, Blevins, Sylvan Hills Baptist Church, Camden and Boughton Baptist Church. He was also the past mayor of Reader, Ark. and worked for and owned interest in the Reader Railroad. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Hazel Purifoy Turner. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Doughty Turner, of Prescott, Ark.; one son and daughter-in-law, James Gregory Turner and Lydia, of Camden, Ark., two daughters and one son-in-law, Terri Elizabeth Sandefur and Jeff, of Texarkana, Texas, and Natalie Ellen Turner, of Kingsport, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a number of other family members and friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Prescott, Ark. with Rev. Frank Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in the Sycamore Grove Community under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the funeral.
