Mary Jeanette Richmond, 50, of Helena, Arkansas passed away Monday, August 13, 2012 at Helena. Miss Richmond was born July 24, 1962 at Helena to Zina Elardo Richmond and the late Edward W. Richmond. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mary graduated in the DeSoto School Class of 1980 and then graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math from the University of Dallas in 1984. She worked as a substitute teacher while working on her master's degree. She began teaching at DeSoto School in the high school math department. She cherished the fact that she had the opportunity to teach both of her brothers. Mary served as junior and senior class sponsor, chaperoned ABC tests and Mississippi Math/Science competitions, and kept stats for basketball games. She was the coordinator for DeSoto's St. Jude Math-a-Thon and was also a cheerleading sponsor. She was inducted into the DeSoto Hall of Fame in 2010. Mary loved teaching and missed it very much. She had a great impact on the lives of many students. She is survived by her mother, Zina Elardo Richmond of Helena; a sister, Joni Reed (Steve) of Helena; two brothers, Edward W. Richmond Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas and Michael Richmond (Brooke) of Helena; nieces, Elizabeth Gregory, Kaylee Whitson and Jacklyn Weaver; two great-nieces, Cassie and Raylen Smith; uncles and aunt, Sam Elardo, Pete Elardo, Ted and JoAnn Zieger. She was preceded in death by her father. A service for Mary Richmond will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 16, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Helena. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Roller-Citizens. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Helena, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Curtis Gregory, E.G. Morris, Ben Pittman, Robert Murray, Joe St. Columbia and Mike Erwin. Honorary pallbearers are faculty of DeSoto School. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 123 Columbia Street, Helena, Arkansas 72342. Services will be directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, (870) 572-2571.
