James H. "Arlie" Moore Sr., age 90, of Benton, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at McClellan VA Hospice. He was born August 21, 1921 in Benton, Arkansas. Jimmy enlisted in the Army on August 5, 1942. He was a proud member of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. Jimmy participated in the battles and campaigns that took place in Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and also in Pusan, Korea. Among his many medals, he was extremely proud of the Purple Heart awarded to him when he was wounded in action on October 16, 1944 in Holland. While recuperating from battle fatigue at the military hospital in Hot Springs, he met and army nurse, Jo Peterman of Georgia, they married and had three sons. Jimmy worked as a food broker for Rand Wholesale Groceries servicing south central Arkansas for many years. In his prime, he enjoyed hunting and fishing at Lakeside Country Club where he served as a past president in 1975. He was a past Commander of VFW Post 2256 and a die hard Razorback fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Moore and a son, Bruce Moore. Survivors include two sons, James H. "Jimbo" Moore, Jr. (Genevieve) of Benton and Robert L. Moore of Texas; one granddaughter, Ragan Kyzer (Bill) of Benton; one grandson, Jason Moore of Little Rock; two great-grandchildren, Preston and Ashton Kyzer of Benton. Jimmy is also survived by his dear friends, Mark and Melissa Glover and their sons, Matthew and Zachary of Benton. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 22 at Ashby Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, August 23 at Pine Crest Memorial Park. Rev. David Jones will be officiating. The family would like to thank Helen Cook for being a wonderful caregiver.
