Carl J. (Red) Moore, 79, left this world to be with his heavenly Father on January 26, 2012. A native of Pine Bluff, Ark., Carl was born on July 18, 1932. After leaving high school, Carl enlisted in the US Army Reserves and was quickly called up to serve his country in the Korean War, where he earned several medals. Upon returning from the war, he was in possession of a wealth of war stories that would keep friends alive and near him for the rest of his life as he shared those stories with others. He also used the military funding to earn Bachelor and Master's Degrees in education from the University of Central Arkansas (then ASTC), and began his life's work as a teacher of American History and Psychology at North Little Rock High School in 1962. Over the years, he had a positive impact on many young lives. During his tenure, he received awards for outstanding teaching and served as President of the NLR Classroom Teachers' Association. As an avid Wildcat supporter, he was often the loudest voice in the stand. Loving all sports and enjoying being outdoors, Carl was an avid sportsman. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, and gardening; and he was a story teller who loved to regale his friends (and acquaintances) with memories of many of his wild and crazy adventures...usually more than once. Carl always enjoyed a good joke, a hardy laugh, or a devious prank, whether he was on the giving or receiving end. Even more, he enjoyed reliving those times by telling others about the experience…usually more than once. Carl gave his life to his Lord and Savior in June of 1973, and embarked on a new life, filled with faith, hope, love, and a zest for life. He was a member of Celebration Bible Church. Carl was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother, Martha Doris Moore; and a number of dear lifelong friends. He is survived by a loving wife, Nancy Herring Moore; a precious daughter, Christy M. Klucher and her husband, Michael; and two glorious grandchildren, Justin and Casey Klucher. Carl has been greatly loved in this world and is now surrounded by Christ's pure love and by loved ones who have gone before him. He will be greatly missed, having enriched the lives of his family and others who knew him. Praise be to God. A memorial celebration will be held on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Rest Hill Memorial Family Gathering Room located at 7724 Landers Road in North Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carl's memory to the Carl J. (Red) Moore Scholarship Fund through the North Little Rock School District, c/o NLRSD, P.O. Box 687, North Little Rock, Ark. 72115, or to the Arkansas Alzheimer's Association at their website www.alzark.org or location at 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
