Charles Quinton Gavin

Charles Quinton Gavin, 87, of Dumas, Ark. passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012. He was born Dece. 31, 1924 in Warren, Ark. to the late Marie and Lewis Gavin. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Fred Wayne and Kelly Gavin. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Tyler Gavin, of Dumas. He is also survived by daughters, Becky (Bob) Horton on Lakeland, Tenn., Brenda (Eddie) Anderson of Oakland, Tenn., Sherry (Allen) Bird of Little Rock, Ark., and son Don (Vanessa) Gavin of Katy, Texas. Grandchildren include Matt Ellis, Kerri Ellis, Karie Perkins, Randy Perkins, Terri (Cori) Shapuras, Melissa Gavin and Lisa Gavin; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving him is his sister, Nora Mazanti of Stockbridge, Ga. and numerous cousins. He retired from the US Army after 23 years of service and moved to Dumas in 1965 where he worked in sales until his retirement from IPSO Irrigation and Pipe. He was an avid golfer and domino player. He had a generous heart and his last act of kindness was pulling turnips to take to the Dumas Assisted Living facility right before he succumbed to a heart attack. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Dumas on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 30 at the Dumas Griffin Funeral Home from 5:30-7 p.m.
