Richard D. Cody

USAF Lt.Col. Retired, Richard D. Cody of Peoria, Ariz. entered into eternal rest on May 26, 2012. He was born April 14, 1937 in Chicago, Ill. Preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Helen Cody and his sister, Jeanne Cody (Swilling); and first wife, Linda Cody. His wife Hester, and his immediate family survive him: son, Chris Cody and fiance' Cathryn Studak; daughter, Patricia Cody Shields wife of Jason Shields and their daughter Alana. He is also survived by his step-children, Philip Mitchell Jr., Traci Reppert, Tami Schasny, and Todd Childers. Col. Cody graduated high school in 1955 Mabelvale, Ark. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the University of Arkansas in 1960. In 1971, he earned a Masters in Business Administration from Arizona State University. He was commissioned in the USAF in 1960--a career that was culminated by the award of the 3rd highest military honor-the Defense Meritorious Service Award. Col. Cody retired in 1985. Afterwards Southern Illinois University Carbondale employed him from 1986 to 2007, retiring as the Director of the Small Business Development Center. A memorial service was held at Heritage Funeral Chapel in Peoria, Ariz. on May 29. Another service will be held in Carbondale, Ill. at a date to be determined. The family requests donations to a veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
