Walter E. "Gene" Butler Sr., age, 92, of Little Rock, AR passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012. Gene joined the US Navy in January of 1939 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the bombing. He was discharged September 1945. He retired from the United States Post Office as a mail carrier. After retiring, Gene became an avid golfer and played daily at Hindman Golf Course. Gene was a member of Henderson United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Stephen Butler and Josephine Powell Butler and his wife, Mary Nell Crandall Butler. He is survived by his three sons, Walter E. "Gene" Butler Jr. (Toni) of Sherwood, Julius Stephen Butler (Mary) of Maumelle, and John David Butler (Nancy) of Mabelvale; five grandchildren, Brandon, Brooke, Amanda, Chris, and Aaron; three great-grandchildren, Landon, Colton, and Ella, and one brother, Stephen H. Butler (Joy) of Little Rock. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Henderson United Methodist Church, 13000 West Baseline Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72210 with Rev. David Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Martin Cemetery in Little Rock. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday June 6, 2012 at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209. (501) 455-5800.
