Dalton L. "Buddy" Northern Jr., age 65, of Benton; lost his battle to cancer and passed away peacefully Sunday, June 10, 2012. He was born November 19, 1946 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Dalton L. Northern Sr. and Geraldine Northern. He graduated from Benton High School in 1964 and received an athletic scholarship to the University of Arkansas where he played for the 1964 National Championship Team under Coach Frank Broyles. he earned a degree in business law in June of 1970. In 2009, Buddy was inducted into the Benton Athletic Memorial Museum Wall of Fame. Buddy was in Senior Management for many years. He worked for Sears Roebuck in Little Rock and Pine Bluff, Marks Rothenburg in Meridian, Mississippi, S.D. Leasing in Little Rock, Union Planters in Memphis, Tennessee and Dobbs Fleet Leasing. Buddy was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton. He spent most of his adult years enjoying his children and outdoor activities, primarily duck hunting and trout fishing. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Powell and husband David of Mississippi and Mary E. Fain and husband Jason of Houston, Texas and two grandchildren, Sidney E. Northern and Ashton S. Fain. Pallbearers will be David Powell, Jason Fain, Greg Gattin, Randy Northern, Herb Peach and Mike Thompson. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 12 at Ashby Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the chapel with burial at Pine Crest Memorial Park. Dr. Rick Grant will be officiating. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Benton.
