Martha J. Dix

Martha J. Dix, 85, of Searcy, Ark., passed from this life at her home on Sunday, March 4, 2012. She was born in Auvergne, Ark., the daughter of Nora and C.B. Mason. She graduated from Newport High School. She married Walter E. Dix of Newport in 1948 and they soon moved to Searcy where she worked as telephone operator with Southwestern Bell and retired after 28 years of service. She later worked at Edward D. Jones in Searcy for seven years before entering into retirement full time to enjoy her many hobbies which included gardening, raising orchids and needlepoint. She is survived by three sons; Wally Dix and Sherman Dix of Searcy, Joseph Dix of Little Rock; a daughter, Lynn Dix and her husband David Galloway of Natchitoches, Louisiana; a sister, Carol Davis O'Connor of Fayetteville; two step-brothers, Raymond Davis of Newport and Charles Davis of Pine Bluff; two granddaughters; Samantha Dix and Dakota Dix of Searcy; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 6 at Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Searcy. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens by Powell Funeral Home of Searcy.
