Roy Orville Bullock

Roy Orville Bullock, 83, of Pine Bluff died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Mr. Bullock was born April 16, 1929, at the Sunshine Plantation in Humphrey, Arkansas, to the late Hobort and Fannie Mae Whatley Bullock. Mrs. Fannie Mae Bullock passed away at the age of 42. His dad remarried in 1951 to Jo Trussel. Mr. Bullock was reared at the pocket at Mills Bayou between DeWitt and Gillett and received his education in Arkansas County. He married Betty Jo Harper on April 16, 1955, in Hernando, Mississippi. Mrs. Bullock passed away on September 25, 2010. In 1945, Mr. Bullock worked for Layne, Arkansas as a well driller. He left Layne and joined the United States Army, where he was a Sergeant in the First Calvary. He served in Korea in 1951, Japan in 1952, and Germany in 1953. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he went back to Layne, Arkansas and worked as a well driller from 1953 to 1958. In 1958, Mr. Bullock went to work for International Paper (now Evergreen Packaging) and retired from there on February 1, 1995, as a systems specialist. Mr. Bullock also had a fire engine named after him. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and the V. F. W. Post 4455, where he served as chaplain. He was a past Master (from 1972-1983) of Branchfield Lodge FF 256 F & AM in 1966, a member of the York Rite (1972), a Pine Bluff Shriner (1976) and the Royal Jester Court #38 (1981). He was also a member of the Quarter Century Club at International Paper Company and the Crown Club. Mr. Bullock enjoyed airplanes of all sorts. But never flew except during the Korean War, going to Japan, Germany, and Korea. His passion for flying developed into one of his favorite hobbies: building model airplanes, some of which were donated to the Grider Field Airport in Pine Bluff. In remembrance, Mr. Bullock's son Donnie Joe adds, "Dad worked hard all of his life, giving more to his wife and sons everyday of his life. Our dad never complained, always showing his love by being there if we needed him. He was a man of great pride and leadership. He once said ‘You don't know how you raised your sons till you watch your sons raise their sons.' Our dad did well. His values have been passed down. Thanks Dad. The most wonderful memory of dad was of the house we built on Highway 81. He was such a wonderful dad." He will be missed so much by his family and friends. Mr. Bullock is survived by two sons, Donnie Joe (Donna) Carnahan of White Hall, and Vince Byron (Kim) Bullock of Pine Bluff; four grandchildren, Daniel Ryan (Sarah) Carnahan of Little Rock, Aaron Zane (Crystal) Carnahan of Bella Vista, Dustin Heath Bullock of Pine Bluff, and Zackery Caine (Christina) Bullock of White Hall; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Owen Carnahan; and five brothers, Harvey Bullock, William Glen Bullock, Marvin Dale Bullock, Hobert Bullock Jr., and Harold Dewayne Bullock. Mr. Bullock was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Bullock, a brother, Delbert Bullock and two sisters, Ruby Thurgood and Pauline Bullock. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 22, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Robinson's. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 1:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend James Watson officiating.
