Dorothy Willis

Dorothy Willis was the youngest of Guy and Claudia Hughes Willis' three daughters. She was born at home on March 1, 1925 and passed away on November 23, 2012. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Augusta where she enjoyed all the city had to offer. She joined the Methodist Church when she was 10 years old and was a member of the choir for over 64 years. She was on the Administrative Board and served as the church treasurer for over 20 years. Dorothy was well known in and around the Augusta area for her 41 years of dedicated service to The Bank of Augusta. Beginning as a bookkeeper and retiring as Vice President and Cashier, Dorothy was the first woman officer of the bank and also served as a member of the Board of Directors. For 47 years, she served as treasurer for the City of Augusta. Likewise, she served as a member and treasurer of the Augusta Industrial Development Corporation and helped to initiate the Augusta Improvement Club. Dorothy spent many hours compiling data for a cemetery plot map of the Augusta Memorial Park Association of which she served as a board member and treasurer. She was in the National Bank Women's Association and served as Chairman of the Arkansas Chapter of NABW. The Augusta chapter of B&PW of which she was a member, honored her as Woman of the Year in 2006. Dorothy was always active. She was a long time member of the PEO Sisterhood, enjoyed traveling, both snow and water skiing and golf. She often golfed with her mother, who played into her nineties. She and her sister, Martha Sue, were known for entertaining friends with their famous "Time Step" dance! Working on the restoration of the Augusta Presbyterian Church building was also one of her special projects. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ara Nell Hopper, and is survived by her closest friend and sister, Martha Sue Keath. Other family include her nephew, John Keath (Jeanette) and her two nieces, Andrea Hopper Williams (Barry) and Jan Keath Patterson (Steve), as well as five great nieces and nephews and six great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Rhodes and Son Funeral Home, Augusta, on Saturday, November 24, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be at the Augusta United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 25 at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the family plot of the Augusta Memorial Park. Arrangements by Rhodes & Son Funeral Home, Augusta & McCrory. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church, Box 452, Augusta, Ark. 72006, or to a favorite charity.
