Marguerite H. Walker

Marguerite H. Walker, age 87, of Malvern, died Saturday, September 22, 2012, in the Hot Spring County Medical Center. She was born in Ferriday, Louisiana on September 10, 1925 to the late Sam Hacker and Laura Frazier Hacker. Reared and receiving her early education in Gurdon, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Education degree at Henderson State Teachers College (now Henderson State University), and her M.S.E. degree at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She taught English at Lakeside in Hot Springs, at Altheimer, and in the Tuckerman School District. She and her husband, who was a school administrator, retired to Malvern in 1987. Mrs. Walker was a member of Kappa Delta Gamma Sorority, the Arkansas Education Association, and the National Education Association. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter BC. Mrs. Walker was a member of First United Methodist Church and attended its Friendship Sunday School Class. She was the widow of the late James B. Walker, Sr. to whom she was married on May 23, 1947 in Hope, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2006. She is survived by her granddaughter, Lindsey Walker of Searcy, Arkansas; two nephews, Col. Jimmy Walker and his wife, Sue, of Alexandria, Virginia, and John Walker of Coco Beach, Florida; by a niece, Anne Blakely and her husband Gary of Ft. worth, Texas; and by numerous great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Walker was also preceded in death by a son, James B. Walker, Jr. and a brother. Her funeral will be at 11 o'clock, Wednesday morning, September 26, 2012 in the chapel of J.A. Funk Funeral Home with Reverend LaVon Post officiating. Interment will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery. A visitation will precede the service, beginning at 10 o'clock.
