Vernon Harry Patton of Decatur, Illinois formerly of Forrest City was born the 9th day of January 1951. On that day, Odie Patton Sr. and Emaline Patton became parents to twin boys whom they named Sherman and Vernon. They were the ninth and 10th of 11 children born of this union. Vernon was a star football player and president of the Lincoln High School class of 1969. For 26 years he was married to the lovely Dorothy Cochran. Vernon worked for many years as an aircraft fabricator. Vernon departed this life on the 6th day of December 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Ill. Vernon leaves to cherish his memories, three children: Vernon Lorenzo Hughes, Sr., Quentin LaPaul Kirkland, and Angela Nicole Hunter, three siblings: Howard Bailey, Odie Patton Jr., and Mae O'rita Bonds, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by a son, Carlo Amillion Patton, his parents, five brothers and five sisters. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the evening on Thursday, the 12th of December at Kincaid Funeral Services, Inc. in Forrest City, Arkansas. A graveside service is to be conducted at 12 noon in the afternoon on Friday, the 13th of December, at the Rest in Peace Cemetery in Hensley, Arkansas, where Pastor Ronald Williams, is to officiate.
