Gene Holcomb, age 69, of Pearcy, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013. He was born on December 22, 1943, in Alpine, the son of Jewell "JR" and Cora Holcomb of Alpine. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lendol, Charles, Gerald and Roy Vernon Holcomb; three sisters, Edna Ruth Partridge, Fern Ainsworth and Verlon Inez Floyd. Gene is survived by his wife Linda "Tuffy" Holcomb; a son Darrell Wayne Holcomb and his wife Tammi of Pearcy; a step-daughter Kathy Rowland and her husband Chris of Pearcy; two grandsons, Dylan Griffith and his wife Whitney and Spencer Holcomb of Pearcy; three step-grandsons, Brandon Rowland and his wife Julie of Fort Smith, Cameron Rowland and his wife Danielle of Pearcy and Chance Rowland of Pearcy; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Wayne and his wife Patricia of Arkadelphia and Larry "Tommy" and his wife Carolyn of Hot Springs; two sisters, Naomi Lavonne Carson and her husband Clift of Hampton and Evelyn Allen of Bismarck; three sisters-in-law, Sharrion McClain and her husband Bob, Sandra Capel and her husband Tim and Calva Smith all of Hot Springs; several nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends and one very special companion, "Duke", his yellow Labrador. He worked at National Rejecters for 18 years and then began work at Union Pacific Railroad, where he retired after 27 years. He loved a good time spent with family and friends and loved telling a good joke, baking pies and taking the dogs for a ride in his truck. He enjoyed a little fun in the sun, as long as he could be the boat captain. He was considered to be the coolest "Poppa" around. You've seen his style...overalls, silver hair and his "better half" Tuffy, on the back of his custom V8 chopper trike. Most of all, Gene loved being in love with Tuffy, and taking her dancing. Their relationship and good times they've had were envied by many and most would say when we grow up we want to be fun like them. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs with Chris Rowland officiating. Interment will be in the New Mount Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
