Dorothy Young Mattson

Dorothy Young Mattson, age 91, the matriarch of our family, passed on to eternal life with Christ, her Savior, on Monday, February 11, 2013. Dorothy was born on April 8, 1921, in Little Rock to Walter and Adeline Young. She married Marvin Mattson in 1945. Dorothy's faith and positive outlook had a strong influence on her five children. She loved visiting and traveling with her children and grandchildren. An avid board game player, she enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed her careers as a school secretary and office manager, working until she was 86. She is cherished and admired by her family: Dr. Beverly Mattson, Carol and Garry Deason, Marvin and Nancy Mattson, Michael and Jeannine Mattson, and Betty and Kenneth Raper; nine grandchildren: Leslie Goolsby, Jon and Kris Raper, Valerie Donnan, Michael Mattson Jr., Jessica Wade, Kimberly Potts, Alison Mattson, and Blake Deason; 17 great-grandchildren; cousins Jean Neal, Ruth Landers; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Mae Grubbs and brothers, Bill, Samuel, Elmer and Ted Young. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church, serving as Director of the Senior Adult Department. Dorothy was Show Chair/President of the Crafty Critters Club, which provided funding for the Dorcas House. She was also President of the Southern Women's Association. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff and caregivers at The Lakes at Maumelle. Visitation will be held Friday, February 15, 2013, 4-6 p.m., at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, (501) 224-8300. Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, February 16, 2013 10 a.m., at the funeral home, with Dr. James Thomason officiating.
