Gladys Ruth Dodd

Gladys Ruth Dodd was born on December 4, 1916 to Calvin B. and Leda Miller Harrison. She passed away on February 12, 2013. She is the widow of Dr. William Carroll Dodd. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Steward and husband Eugene of Bald Knob, Arkansas; son, James E. Hamilton and wife Phyllis of Conway, Arkansas; son, William Carroll Dodd Jr. and wife Debbie of Searcy, Arkansas; grandchildren, Marcia Ables, Gina Bunker, Jason Hamilton, Eric Hamilton, Allyn Fuell, Jake Dodd and Kyler Dodd; and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Russell, Cecil, and Barney Harrison, and one granddaughter. Ruth was an accomplished pianist/organist. She shared her music with weddings, funerals, teas, style shows, beauty pageants, birthday celebrations, and open houses. She was an organist for the First United Methodist Church of Bald Knob, Searcy, Russell, and Kensett and the First Christian Church of Bald Knob. Ruth was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a past matron of the George Washington Chapter 224 of Bald Knob; a member of the Searcy Chapter 382 and the Watkins Chapter 54 in Kensett, Arkansas. She was a past Grand Organist of the Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Arkansas, and past Grand Representative of British Columbia and Yukon in Arkansas. She shared her music with all chapters in the district. After the death of her husband Dr. William Carroll Dodd, she worked fourteen years for the Bald Knob School District. Ruth was a graduate of Searcy High School, Draughn Business College, and years of the study of music with private piano instructors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Visitation will be Friday form 6-8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home of Searcy.
