James W. "Pop" Smith 77, of North Little Rock passed away Monday, January 07, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Preston Smith and Kathryn Isabel Hastings Smith; brother, Robert Bernard Smith; daughter-in-law, Debra Smith. Pop was a member of Abu Ben Adhem Lodge in Carthage, Mo. He will be remembered for mentoring a generation of North Little Rock youth. Pop was known for opening his home to kids and friends and enjoying their company. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Loretta "Retta" Johnston Smith; sons, Randy Smith of North Little Rock; Marty Smith (Susan) of North Little Rock; daughters, Becki Cleveland (Michael) of Maumelle and Lori B. Wolfe (Mark) of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Jamie Leonard (Brian), Kimberly McConniel (Trae), Jennifer Smith and Katie Gatrell. He is also survived by twin brother J. Wayne Smith (Mary Jo) of Independence, Mo.; and special friend, Brian Scott (Martha) and their son, Bryson. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd. North Little Rock, Ark. 72116 (501-791-7400).
