Rex Edward Kilgore

Rex Edward Kilgore, 80, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 12:35 p.m., after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully in his home in Granbury, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Monday in Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. The family will be greeting friends and relatives from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood. Rex was born on Sept. 25, 1932, in Pocola, Okla., to E.G. and Sarah Kilgore, the second of four children. Rex grew up in Pocola, Okla., graduating from Pocola High School in 1950. After high school, he attended The University of Arkansas, until entering the Air Force. Rex married the love of his life, Joan Miller, in 1952 in Fort Smith, Ark. They were happily married for 45 years until she went to be with the Lord, 15 years ago. Rex was a member of River Oaks Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. Rex served four years in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of staff sergeant; serving in France, Saudi Arabia and other various locations to set up communication systems for the Air Force. Rex worked in sales for Lone Star Gas Company and Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages as a directory representative, retiring in April of 1987 after 26 years and four months of service. Rex began and ran Rex Kilgore Construction for over 40 years. He built many beautiful homes and businesses in the Fort Worth area as well as a home for his daughter in New Home, Texas, and his son in Peyton, Colo. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gregory Phillips, Dr. Stephen Richey, Dr. Clinton Park, Texas Oncology, and Community Hospice of Cleburne and their staffs for their dedication and compassionate care and support. Also, a special thank-you to three very special neighbors: Dr. Harold Granek for his attendance and support during treatments and doctor visits and Johnny and Kathy Krajca and Don and Brenda Anthony for always being there. Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; parents, E.G. and Sarah Kilgore; and his brother, E.G. "Sonny" Kilgore Jr. Survivors: Rex is survived by his daughter, Debbie Kidwell and her husband, Marcus, of New Home; his son, Phillip Kilgore and his wife, Melinda, of Jonesville, Mich.; his grandchildren, Amy Kidwell, Daniel Kidwell and his fiancee, Kaitlin Lingo, Aaron Kilgore, Julia Kilgore, Chelsea Kilgore and Ryan Kilgore; his sister, Linda Rachels and her husband, Truman, of Claremore, Okla.; his brother Eddie Kilgore of Pocola, Okla.; his sister-in-law, Irene Stroup and her husband, Roy, of Tulsa, Okla.; as well as his many cousins, nieces, nephews and other friends.
